Jazz and Death

I was checking out what looks to be a very interesting book, "Jazz and Death, Medical Profiles of Jazz Greats," by Frederick J. Spencer, M. D., and it appears to separate truth from legend, in the cases where the distinction can be drawn. The book is still out of my price range. I am a bit of a science geek, but what do you all think? Do you ever wander what the truth was and what was myth, possibly propelled by publicists, or family members?
